2010 edition

A week of blues in the city – a totally revamped edition.

Music, theatre, art, cinema, literature, electronics, food and wine and cultural itineraries: this is the ambitious range of events that will be mixed in seven spectacular days from 23 to 29 August 2010.
More than 150 people including artists and professionals, over 80 bars and shops all united for a single purpose: to create a memorable event, with the blues as the catalyst!
This is the challenge of the XIX Pordenone Blues Festival 2010: a historical event with a very specific focus, which aims to present itself in an innovative and original way while maintaining the tradition of the music it represents, filtered through the lens of our times.

Art Meets Blues

Blues!
Two different points of view, two different expressive modes that combine thanks to a single common denominator: the blues!
This is the soul of the project created by Luca Ambrosio, an established photographer from Pordenone, and by Giulio Iurissevich, an illustrator, urban artist, graphic designer Pordenone famous throughout the world for his polymorphic style. The latter is a figure who counts among his international clients Elle, Marie Claire, Vogue, The Source, Burlington, Gap, Pepsi and who created the graphics for the new Pepsi Max, Canadian Winter Olympics Vancouver 2010. He has exhibited in the UK, USA, Germany, Holland, France, China, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Elected “the best British contemporary illustration 2005/2006 (AOI)”, he is considered by Luerzer Archive one of the 200 best illustrators of the last four years worldwide. His works are exhibited in the major galleries of Paris, Brussels, London, Lyon and Rome (from September 2010 to June 2011).
In this exhibition the two artists carry out a reinterpretation/revisitation of the popular origins and the classic image of the blues.
The exhibition will remain open until August 29th at the Caffè Letterario.

It is with pride that the official t-shirt of the XIX century will be presented. Pordenone Blues Festival. The graphic of the shirt, which is also the image of the 2010 edition of the festival, was created by Giulio Iurissevich.

Blue Wine

The official wines of the 19th century Pordenone Blues Festival.
“Social and emotional, wine has something in its character that links it to blues music, which is music of the earth, of everyday life, direct music. I chose to accompany these notes two wines, which speak of our land: the white Friulano and Ter, a red wine made of Merlot, Cabernet and Refosco.” (Sabina Maffei).
The labels designed by Giulio Iurissevich make the bottles splendid collector's items.
You can taste Blue in almost all the places in the centre of Pordenone, alone or combined with a snack created especially for the festival for the price of 3 euros.

Theater Meets Blues

Within the International Meeting “L'Arlecchino Errante”, the Experimental School of the Actor presents: Beloved
From the novel of the same name by Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison.
A work on the slavery of blacks in America. In its harsh and painful yet warm language flows the same blood of the most sincere blues. A single voice for a hundred characters and landscapes, a single harmonica for a thousand deep echoes. A concert of ghosts and at the same time a rite of passage. True memory is that which serves to heal from future evils, and music is its engine.

About fifty lyrics by Howlin' Wolf or sung by Howlin' Wolf, with particular attention to the textual themes developed by Wolf and his complex relationship with Willie Dixon, to whom a chapter of analysis of the lyrics interpreted by Howlin' Wolf is dedicated.

Cinema meets the blues

As part of the Visioni Sonore festival, Cinema Zero presents Delta Blues Rarities.
An evening in which the devil's music dialogues with images, to become a frame in the whirlwind of sounds and colors of the blues. Rare and unmissable video recordings, small gems of image and above all of sound, starting from a lysergic Sonny Boy Williamson to get to Big Bill Broonzy passing through Ida Cox.

Giulio Masieri – Drawing Sound Experience (live performance)

The blues played and painted by contemporary art is certainly not like you expect.
Drawing Sound Experience is a project born in 2008, conceived by Giulio Masieri to unite painting and music in a single performative act.
Artist resident in Pordenoneif, known in countries such as Japan, Russia, England, France, Belgium, Crimea for having decorated illustrious environments and palaces, including the residence of the president of Kazakhstan, Masieri now puts to good use his many years of experience as a Renaissance/Baroque painter by dedicating himself to contemporary art.
To achieve this goal, Giulio Masieri invented a sound panel with which, thanks to sensors that allow the computer to transform the pictorial gesture into a musical note or chord without using bases or sampling, he manages to create pictorial-musical works. The contact between music and painting becomes, in this way, real and immediately perceptible by the spectator.
The aim of this research is to paint something that cannot be painted without playing and to play something that cannot be played without painting.
Al Pordenone Blues Festival, his new show is presented to the public as a world premiere, with him accompanied by nationally renowned musicians.

The Blues Brothers Night Party + The Bluesmobile Band in concert

In collaboration with Cinema Zero.
A party with music and images, many unpublished, of the legendary group.
The Blues Brothers turns thirty this year. The film directed by John Landis, released in June 1980, marked an era with its comedy to the rhythm of music, quickly becoming a cult for an entire generation.
The Bluesmobile Band is a 10-piece big band that brings to the stage, with lots of passion and authentic fun, a show during which people sing and dance to the rhythm of the most famous songs of the Blues Brothers.
At least one themed accessory is appreciated.
