The Cult
The Cult is an English rock band founded in 1983 by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy.
With great skill and genius, over the years of their musical activity they have managed to introduce elements of blues, psychedelia and powerful guitar riffs into the original gothic sound, arriving at the definitive hard-rock turning point.
The group's founders came from two different goth rock bands active in the early 80s: Southern Death Cult (whose lead singer was Ian Astbury) and Theater of Hate (in whom Billy Duffy was a guitarist for a short time). Both abandoned their respective groups in '83, forming Death Cult, the abbreviated name of Astbury's old band (who had borrowed it from that of an Indian tribe from the Mississippi Delta of the 1996th and 1999th centuries, being passionate about Native American culture); in that same year the group, with Jamie Stewart on bass and Ray Mondo on drums (both former members of Ritual), released an EP of the same name and the single "Gods Zoo" from which, after the abandonment of Ray Mondo (who being illegally in England he was expelled and sent back to Sierra Leone - his native country) the drummer became Nigel Preston, also ex-Theatre of Hate as well as of Sex Gang Children. The members later embarked on parallel projects. Billy Duffy founded Colorsound with Craig Adams and Mike Peters while Ian Astbury formed Holy Barbarians, releasing the album Cream in 2001 and then his first and only solo album Spirit, Light, Speed in 2002. In XNUMX, Ian, Billy and Matt Sorum reunited for a new album, Beyond Good And Evil, and a concert tour until XNUMX, when Ian joined the Doors' California reunion, later renamed Riders On The Storm.
The Cult have 11 studio albums to their credit: Dreamtime (1984); Love (1985); Electric (1987); Sonic Temple (1989); Ceremony (1991); The Cult (1994); Beyond Good and Evil (2001); Born into This (2007); Choice of Weapon (2012); Hidden City (2016). In October 2022 they released Under The Midnight Sun, a masterpiece acclaimed by audiences and critics, the eleventh album of their career.
The English band will perform at the Pordenone Blues & Co. Festival to present for the first time live in Italy their new recording project.

In the leadership of the singer/guitarist Lee-la Baum (already defined as "the daughter of Robert Plant and Janis Joplin"), provocative and charismatic, the sharp and energetic plots of a band that recall Crazy Horse, Arcade Fire or Jack White, roots that take shape on the border between the '60s and '70s and then combine elements of indie and alternative rock.
The real beginning took shape from the moment Lee-la Baum's voice was all the rage in an Yves Saint Laurent commercial, in which she played "Love is Blindness" by U2, followed by over two million views and thousands of comments , up to “Devilish Folk”, a work mixed by Tchad Blake (Black Keys, Pearl Jam, Arctic Monkeys) and mastered by John Davis (Led Zeppellin, Lana Del Rey, Florence + The Machine) and financed with a crowdfunding campaign went well beyond the pre-established goal. In Canada the band is distributed by Warner Music.
They opened 3 Canadian ZZTop shows, sold out the legendary Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles, and entered the studio with Bob Rock (Metallica, Aerosmith) to record some songs for the latest album “Now or Nowhere”.
