In 1979, when The Blues Band officially formed, some of its members were already admired by generations of blues fans. After 3 decades and 18 albums, their ranks of admirers continue to grow and it is not uncommon to find 3 generations of the same family at their concerts… The band is now recognized throughout Europe as one of the best “purveyors” of R&B. They have inspired countless other bands, but they are still there, very strong, constantly growing, in a world parallel to that of the official record business. As bassist Gary Fletcher says, “The music industry has never bothered us, and we have never bothered the music industry”. A legendary band, led by singer-harmonica player Paul Jones, former voice of Manfred Mann (after having declined Brian Jones' invitation to join the Stones in 1962…), BBC radio host with a successful blues program that has been on the air for years, Broadway actor. During his career he sang with Ten Years After, Al Kooper, Carlos Santana – and in the first line-up of Steppenwolf. He played harmonica with Memphis Slim, Alexis Korner, Henry Gray, Alvin “Youngblood” Hart, Susan Tedeschi, Eric Bibb, Otis Grand – not to mention Tina Turner and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia… Guitarist Dave Kelly is the other pillar of the band: he played with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, becoming one of the most sought-after guitarists for the European tours of these legendary musicians. Other sacred monsters of the British Blues scene complete the line-up: drummer Rob Townsend, bassist Gary Fletcher and guitarist Tom Mc Guinness (formerly a member of the Roosters, together with a young Eric Clapton in 1964). So here they are at Pordenone Blues Festival 2012, exclusively for Italy, the most refined interpreters of English blues… The Blues Band!
