A great surprise will be the legendary one Zoot Money to replace Spencer Davis in the concert on Tuesday 21 August 2012. Zoot Money is one of the most influential characters on the English R&B scene and has always been considered one of the greats of the Hammond organ of the 60s.
Two of the most innovative and influential rock and rhythm & blues bands of the British Sixties come together live on stage playing their many incredible unforgettable hits, from the Zoot Money classics: “I'll go crazy”, “Jump Back”, “ Alone came John” and many others and those of The Animas among which we remember “Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood”, “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place” and, of course, their anthem “House of the Rising Sun”.
The Animals never imagined that in just a few years, and more precisely in 1964, they would become, together with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds, one of the world's leading bands of the new rock and roll and that would later overwhelm young people all over the world. This incredible collection of songs that are part of the history of rhythm & blues is absolutely not to be missed, as this fantastic line-up of music legends provides the perfect dose of the magic of the 60s. The group is made up of John Stell & Mick Gallagher (The Blockheads, The Clash, Paul McCartney) plus Danny Handley (Spencer Davis, Bobby Elliott), Ric Lee (Ten Years After), Peter Barton (Wayne Fontana Mindbenders, The Boomtown Rats Roberts & Crowe) to which Zoot Money is added as a special guest. With the Animals & Friends formula they are touring the world obtaining incredible successes and sharing the stage with friends such as: Zoot Money, Spencer Davis, Michael Schenker ex-guitarist of Scorpion, Stax, Booker T & The MGS, The Blues Brothers, the guitar legend Steve Cropper, The Troggsand. Energetic beyond all expectations they still manage to excite and involve the audience as only the bands of the past knew how to do.
Zoot Money, one of the most influential figures of the English R&B scene since the early 60s, was born in 1942 to Italian immigrant parents, although his father was of English origin. He began to be interested in music at a very early age, learning to play his first instruments at school and singing with the respective choir, but soon felt the call of R&R from overseas, falling in particular in love with the sound of Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Charles, and becoming an important part of the music scene of his hometown of Bournemouth. In 1961 he formed the Big Roll Band which included, among others, a certain Andy Summers on guitar (later in The Police…), Nick Newell on sax, Colin Allen on drums and Zoot on piano and Hammond organ. A few years later Zoot moved to London and was invited by the 'godfather of British blues' Alexis Korner to join Blues Incorporated. Zoot, along with rising stars of the Soho blues and R&B scene, George Fame & The Blue Flames and the Animals, soon became a key figure in “Swinging London” and a regular at the famous Flamingo Club on Wardour Street. From there, his career took off. At the end of the 1960s, the Big Roll Band, after a few changes in lineup and the release of their most successful track “Big Time Operator”, underwent a metamorphosis, transforming into the prototype of the psychedelic band of the time: Dantalian's Chariot. With them, he shared the stage with the greatest “psych” bands of the time, such as Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown (to name just a few), but they never went beyond a single. The album “Chariot Rising” was released 30 years later in 1997. For a short period in the 70s he moved to the USA, joining Eric Burdon’s New Animals, and starting a parallel career as an actor with some success. At the same time Zoot continued to play with many greats such as Kevin Ayers, The Grimms, Kevin Coyne…, before signing in the 80s to Paul McCartney’s label, MPL, and recording the album “Mr. Money”. Since then Zoot’s career has been further enriched by working as a musical director for the BBC, producer and performer for the Spencer Davies Group, Mick Taylor, Alan Price, Humble Pie, The Blues Band, Geno Washington and …The Animals.
