One of the most renowned and incredible bands of the very rich and prolific Hungarian blues scene.
The elements of this formidable quartet follow traditional blues but are influenced by the Stax/Motown soul style. A modern sound but with deep roots in the heart of the blues.
The members are considered the elite of Hungarian blues.
The heart of the band is Little G Weevil (vocals and guitar). Over the course of his career, the Pure Blues bandleader has performed with Terry Evans, Anson Funderburgh, Sam Myers and Shemekia Copeland. The singer's two albums – “Drinking Wine Spo Dee O Dee” (1999) and “Boogie Woogie Barbershop” (2000) – were excellently reviewed by the American magazine Blues Revue. Hundreds of concerts that Little G has held around the world, countless TV appearances and participation in the most important festivals. His vocal timbre and guitar style already denote a strong artistic maturity which is also evident in the compositions and arrangements of his songs.
Pure Blues was born in 2001 from the union of some of the best musicians on the Hungarian scene:
- Istvan Mezöfi, a true drum legend with a solid rock/funky sound.
- Robert Kepes, super sought after bassist on the blues, jazz, rock and funky scene.
- Szabolcs Nagy he is considered the best pianist and composer in his country who has accompanied the most important Hungarian blues bands in the last decade. He has played throughout Europe with musicians of the caliber of Sugar Blue, Louisiana Red, Magic Slim, Holmes Brothers and many others.
The Pure Blues arrive at the Pordenone Blues Festival to present their latest CD “You Don't Know What Love Is” released in 2004 which has now received very good reviews from the most authoritative international music magazines.
