Hearing the hit “This Is What You Are” on the radio for the first time in 2006, you probably imagined a rugged, middle-aged African-American singer. Instead Mario Biondi, a native of Catania, was then thirty-five years old and had white skin. What is misleading is his extraordinary warm and mellow voice, refined over many years of live performances, which made comparisons with Teddy Pendergrass, Isaac Hayes and Barry White, three of the most beautiful black voices of all time, inevitable.
From then on it was a cavalcade of international successes which, between jazz, soul, funky and pop-dance ballads, led him to important collaborations with Burt Bacharach, Al Jarreau, James Taylor Quartet, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Leon Ware, Chaka Khan, Incognito, Claudio Baglioni, Renato Zero and many others. Biondi has performed on international stages, participated in San Remo and performed memorable pieces such as the aforementioned “This Is What You Are”, “Love is a Temple”, “I Chose You”, “What Have You Done to Me”, “Shine On” and many others.
The Sicilian crooner presents a Pordenone also the new album “Dare”, released in January 2021 with which he celebrates his 50 years between early atmospheres and new sounds always in the name of quality.
