A two-day intensive masterclass to discover the secrets of phrasing, touch, and the sound that have shaped history. A unique opportunity led by the instructor. Flavio Paludetti, with the participation of two exceptional Special Guests from the festival stage: Toby Lee e Kris Barras.

Masterclass opening
Welcome, tuning, and framing of the From Rock to Blues journey with Flavio Paludetti.

Introduction: Blues as a language of rock guitar
An analysis of the styles and influences of Slash, Angus Young, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, John Mayer, and Joe Satriani. How the blues vocabulary evolved into modern rock.

Analysis and study of the songs
Songs on the program: Goin' Down, Cissy Strut, The Ghetto, I'd Rather Go Blind. Study of harmonic structure, melody, accompaniment, solo phrasing, and groove.

Study of improvisation
From the blues language to your own personal style: scales, arpeggios, major and minor pentatonic scales, call & response, motivic development and variations.

Face to face with the artists
A meeting and discussion with Kris Barras and Toby Lee: questions, curiosities, and their approach to their careers and the guitar.

Lunch break

Building an effective solo
Timing, sense of groove, use of silence, creation of musical phrases, dynamics, rhythmic variations and building tension.

The rig of the rock greats
Guided tour of the exhibition: analysis of guitars, amplifiers, effects, and the personal approach to the sound of great guitarists.
Sunday July 19th

Questions and clarifications on the material studied, technical and musical insights.

Preparation for the concert
How to play in a band, listening and interacting with other musicians, dynamics and respect for space during a jam session, and musical communication on stage.

General tests
Testing of songs in the setlist, soundcheck and line check.

JAM Concert Finale
With the guest band: Flavio Paludetti (guitar and vocals), Nicola Dal Bò (Hammond organ), Cristian Cecchetto (drums).

Guitarist and teacher, Flavio Paludetti guides students through the expressive vocabulary of the greats: blues phrasing, timing, vibrato, and sound construction.

Jam Session on the Monologue stage

The course prepares students for the grand finale on Sunday, July 19th, starting at 18:30 PM: an exclusive jam session in Piazza della Motta. Participants perform live accompanied by a professional band.
