Byther Smith is a true “living legend” of the Chicago Blues scene.
In his very long career he played with some of the greatest blues musicians of all time such as: Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed and Otis Rush. Born in Mississippi in 1933, he began his first musical experience with gospel music. He later began taking lessons from Robert Lockwood and Hubert Sumlin, considered the best teachers that could be found in those years.
He then embarked on his musical career, becoming a leader in many bands. In the 60s and 70s he recorded a series of highly appreciated and successful 45 rpm records.
In his long career, Smith has given many concerts throughout much of the world.
Much like his contemporary Magic Slim, Smith is a musician who never disappoints both as a singer and as a guitarist.
Heir to the emotions expressed by the great masters of West Side Chicago Blues, Byther Smith has reinvested them in albums of extraordinary power over the last twenty years.
