CINEMA MEETS THE BLUES
Antone's: Home of the Blues
First national viewing
In collaboration with Cinema Zero.
Screening of the film as part of the Visioni Sonore festival.
The protagonist is a film never seen in Italy, a real treat for lovers of the genre: Antone's: Home of the Blues by Dan Karlok (USA, 2004), which will be screened in the Cloister church it will be screened in rotation in the Cloister church from 17.00pm to midnight.
It is a documentary which alternates rare interviews to unpublished footage of performances of the greatest bluesmen performed in the historic Texan bar/club "temple" of blues music: BB King, Willie Nelson, Billy Gibbons, Buddy Guy, Joe Ely, Marcia Ball and Kim Wilson the protagonists.

A story about the condition of African Americans, the roots of black music and the importance of an oral tradition which in the story of Bunny, the protagonist, contrasts with the advent of modernity. There is the leitmotif of the journey in search of fortune, personified by Abel, student of a great bluesman and possessor of that wanderer ethic, a true testament to the status of the blues. The textual references to the great masters of the "rural" genre should be understood in this sense: Skip James, Blind Willie McTell, Furry Lewis. From a historical point of view, the novel takes place at the beginning of the twentieth century, addressing all those dynamics that preceded the Second World War: the racial situation, the advent of the Ku Klux Klan, the great depression. In Bunny's oral tale lies the memory and salvation not only of Ruth and Abel, but that of an entire people who sang the pain in the blues.
Alessandro Angeli he was born in Rome in 1972 and lives in Grosseto. He published Maginot, photogenesis of a novel (Controluce Editions 2008), The language of the ditches. Misery and pride of an outlaw (Besa 2010) e Spiders in the head (Besa 2011).
