The Museums of Montereale Valcellina
In Montereale Valcellina, nestled between mountains and plains, there are two important museum structures that, thanks to their characteristics, their heritage and their installations, allow us to retrace the ancient and recent history of this splendid portion of the Pordenone foothills.
Montereale Musei is a network project that, in addition to offering scientific dissemination services, systematises the archaeological, historical, natural, landscape and human values of the territory. Montereale Musei is: guided tours, school teaching, environmental workshops, excursions, exhibitions, in-depth meetings, cinema, theatre.
Museum of the former hydroelectric power station “Antonio Pitter”
The Museum was born from the reconversion of the “Antonio Pitter” Hydroelectric Power Plant, built by the engineer Aristide Zenari in Malnisio at the beginning of the twentieth century. Powered by the waters of the Cellina stream, the plant, considered one of the largest in Italy at the time, provided public lighting to the city of Venice for the first time. A magnificent example of industrial engineering and architecture that today, as a Museum, preserves and tells this story, giving its visitors the memory of the past through an immersive and interactive experience. Inside the plant, the enormous Francis turbines are still visible.

Archaeological Museum of Montereale Valcellina
The Archaeological Museum of Montereale Valcellina, set up in the prestigious seventeenth-century building complex of Palazzo Toffoli, displays archaeological materials discovered thanks to the intense excavation and study activity conducted in the municipal territory during the last twenty years of the 1900s.
The research, conducted by the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia, has brought to light a series of finds that testify to the continuous use of the area from the Recent Bronze Age (14th century BC) to the present day, with periods of greater or lesser intensity. Among the various phases of occupation of the site, the settlement of the 5th century BC stands out, with the findings of the so-called House of the Dolia.
Swords and weapons offered to the waters, large decorated vases, traces of homes and craft activities, metal jewelry are just some of the finds that form a stop on a fascinating journey into the past.
